HOUSTON - A fee-free adoption weekend by the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care resulted in 161 pets finding new homes and more than $500 in donations to the shelter.

Additionally, nearly 70 dogs and cats were placed in foster homes or other safe locations.

To continue increasing pet adoptions, BARC is offering a "name your own price" cat and kitten adoption event.

Through June 30, potential adopters can decide the adoption fee for their new feline friend. However, a minimum $5 adoption fee is required.

Individuals or families that enjoy the company of pets but are unable to permanently adopt a dog or cat are encouraged to become a volunteer foster pet parent. BARC fosters temporarily take dogs, puppies, cats or kittens into their homes until the pet is ready for adoption.
