Dog stolen with pickup truck found safe

Dog was found about 30 miles away from where he was taken

HOUSTON – A man whose dog was in his pickup truck when it was stolen has been reunited with his best friend.

Will Baker's pickup truck was stolen from the parking lot of a store in the 1000 block of Federal Road on Sept. 21. His black lab, Ace, was inside a kennel in the bed of the pickup truck. They were getting ready to head out on a weekend hunting trip.

Baker said he lost hope of seeing his 12-year-old dog again, but then he got a phone call from Mark Coever, who had some exciting news.

"We got him over here and I got some food in his belly and got him a bone," Coever said.

"Over here" was about 30 miles from where Ace was stolen. Coever said he saw Ace wandering the streets and trying to cross the intersection of Antoine and Westview.

"I got out to save him," Coever said. "I immediately knew that it was him from the pictures I had seen."

Baker said he couldn't be more thankful to Coever.

"It was like losing a family member," Baker said. It's unbelievable. Thank you so much."

Baker said he can replace his stolen vehicle, hunting equipment and electronics, but he never could have replaced Ace.
