1 killed, 6 girls injured after accident shuts down 45 North Freeway at West Gulf Bank

HOUSTON – An SUV jumped from the feeder road to the freeway plowing into a car carrying seven girls, killing one Saturday morning, according to police.

Police said that a man was driving north on the north freeway feeder road swerved off the freeway and traveled through the grass onto 45 North Freeway around 1:30 a.m.

Seven girls from their late teens to their early 20s were on the 45 North Freeway in a Toyota Rav 4 when the SUV slammed into the girls car, officials  said.

The girl sitting in the rear passenger seat died upon impact and the other girls were taken to Houston Northwest Medical Center, according to authorities.

The man was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in stable condition. 

Police said they believe the man was intoxicated and they would have the hospital draw blood to confirm it.

According to authorities, the man will face intoxication manslaughter charges.

The Freeway was shut down for four hours Saturday morning, but was re-opened at 6:20 a.m.
