Dad arrested after boy, 2, found unresponsive in League City garage

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - A father has been arrested after police and EMS responders found a 2-year-old boy unresponsive with a head injury inside an unfinished garage.

Officers and EMS workers responded to the scene on Redwood Drive at 3:45 on Tuesday afternoon.

"They observed that the boy was in some type of distress. He was unresponsive and there was some kind of injury to his head," said Officer Reagan Pena, with the League City Police Department.

Investigators say the boy was living in an unfinished garage with his father in the 2100 block of Redwood Drive.

According to the League City Police Department, the toddler was initially transported to the Clear Lake Regional Hospital ER. He has since been transported to Texas Children's Hospital. His condition is listed as critical.

League City police say after a follow-up investigation at the hospital, the father, identified as Derek Wells,  was charged with injury to a child. Wells is in police custody.
