Customers detain store robbery suspect

HOUSTON – A man was arrested after he tried to steal cash from a drug store, police said.

Rosenberg police said Brian Eugene Jones, 46, went to a Walgreens store in the 3300 block of Avenue H about 10 p.m. Thursday and asked several customers in the store for money.

Jones also walked up to a register and tried to take cash out of it, investigators said.

Two people inside the store detained Jones until police arrived, officials said.

"A scuffle ensued.  He then tried to run out the front door.  Two people in the store, two customers, actually prevented him from leaving the store.  They tackled him and held him down until our officers could get there," Assistant Chief Dallis Warren said. "It's not very often that people take the initiative on their own.  We're very thankful that these people stepped in and prevented this robber from escaping and getting away with it."

Jones was arrested on a robbery charge and taken to the Fort Bend County Jail.
