Crime Stoppers tip leads to charges in elderly woman rape case

Conrad Hargest

HOUSTON – A man has been charged in the rape and robbery of an elderly woman in southwest Houston after a Crime Stoppers tip.

Conrad Hargest is charged with aggravated sexual assault of an elderly or disabled person. Police believe at around 3 a.m. on Oct. 1 Hargest got into the Creekbend Gardens, an independent living apartment complex at 8106 Creekbend, through a side door, then found the woman's apartment door unlocked and let himself in. Police said he sexually assaulted her. Before leaving, investigators said he picked up the woman's wallet, and stole her money.

Crime Stoppers on Oct. 8 released a security video showing Hargest walking down the hall of the facility, and a tipster called in with Hargest's name and birth date. Investigators said Hargest's driver's license photo resembled the suspect in the security video footage.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office told Local 2 Hargest was in jail at the time of the tip call on an unrelated burglary charge from Oct. 5.

Investigators said Hargest told them he was the man in the security video, but that "the video does not show me going inside the apartment."

Hargest, 29, was charged for the Creekbend crime on Oct. 9, then posted a $30,000 bond the following day.
