HOUSTON - Residents in Woodland Heights are on the lookout for crooks after several reported thefts in the area.

Sarah Baldwin told KPRC Local 2 her SUV was stolen from her home in the 800 block of Teetshorn Street. She said her husband's vehicle was also targeted.

"My husband came out in the morning to go to work and he noticed his car was broken into," said Sarah Baldwin. "Then he looked and saw that my car was gone."

Houston police recovered Baldwin's car later that day, but she said it was trashed with cigarette butts and food. It had been abandoned in a motel parking lot.

"When I sat in it, I just started to cry," she said.

Other nearby residents said they were also crime victims. One person said their expensive gas powered scooter was stolen and another said a bicycle was taken from his yard.

"Yeah, it's pretty upsetting," said Baldwin. "Especially here. You think you're safe. It's really scary."

Baldwin said her experience should serve as a reminder to other residents that they need to be careful and make sure their property is locked up and secured.

"So now we're putting up cameras, flood lights, and an electric gate," she said.
