Court order issued against southwest Houston business accused of selling kush

County attorney won restraining order against ST Smoke Shop

HOUSTON – The Harris County attorney won a restraining order against a southwest Houston smoke shop to stop the sale of synthetic marijuana, also known as 'kush'.

County Attorney Vince Ryan, joined by city officials, won the order from the 55th Judicial District Court of Harris County on Wednesday against the ST Smoke Shop at 9681 Bissonnet Street.

The county attorney's office said the Houston Police Department executed a search warrant and found large quantities of kush inside the store, as well as hash oil, codeine and marijuana. HPD officers arrested clerks Justin Finch and Dandy Chavez, who are accused of possession of a controlled substance.

As part of the restraining order, the owners of the shop must also have two uniformed law enforcement officers present for security and close the store by 10 p.m.

The county attorney will also seek a permanent injunction to close the store for one year.

The order is part of an effort by the county attorney's office, city officials and the Southwest Management District to reduce crime along the Bissonnet Corridor, where the smoke shop is located.
