Couple marries in Dunkin Donuts

"I Do"-nut

BELLAIRE, Texas - In the corner of the Dunkin Donuts Wednesday, surrounded by good friends, family and the smell of sugar glaze, a couple got married.

"I pronounce they are husband and wife," said Rev. Patrick Miller of St. Mark's Episcopal Church after Clark Bennett, 71, and Nancy Christian, 68, exchanged rings and vows.

A cheer went up as the groom kissed his bride.

The couple regularly meets with friends at the donut shop in the 5400 block of Bellaire Boulevard. They wanted to try something different because both have already had big church weddings.

"Actually, it was my idea," said the bride while laughing. "I did promise my grandchildren if they came to my wedding they could pick out any donut they wanted."

All 6 grandchildren came.

"I think it is great. I would marry her anywhere," beamed Bennett, who couldn't take his eyes off his new bride during the ceremony.

The couple met at a Houston outdoor club.

"It was a Halloween hike in Memorial Park and Clark was wearing skeleton pajamas, and I was just blown away," said Christian.

So where will the couple honeymoon after a donut shop wedding?

"We wanted to plan an ideal place to go on a honeymoon. We are going to New Jersey in the winter," laughed Bennett.

The couple is going to New Jersey to pick up an Airstream trailer they bought to begin their new adventures together.
