HOUSTON – A copper theft suspect led police on a chase through east Houston on Monday.
Pasadena police said they responded to a burglary at an apartment complex at 1111 Beltway 8 at 9:30 a.m. The suspect jumped into his SUV and drove off when he spotted officers, starting the chase, officials said.
The chase crossed the Ship Channel Bridge and moved to Interstate 10. Houston police joined in the pursuit.
The suspect got on and off the East Freeway several times before driving on side streets. The SUV was surrounded by police on Kress near Hare, and the driver was taken into custody without incident at 10 a.m.
The suspect is facing several charges, including evading arrest. His name was not released.
Police said they found stolen copper, plumbing fixtures and a generator in his vehicle.
Investigators said it was fortunate that no one was injured and that the suspect did not hit any vehicles during the chase.
