U.S. Coast Guard rescues 2 people from burning boat in Houston Ship Channel, officials say

Two people were rescued from a burning boat Saturday in the Houston Ship Channel, officials said.

The incident was reported at 12:45 p.m. near Kemah.

U.S. Coast Guard said its personnel in the area saw a 44-foot sports boat on fire and saved two people before the boat was engulfed in flames.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The U.S. Coast Guard said its crews are maintaining a safety zone until it is clear.

Officials said Sea Tow is working to salvage the sunken boat out of the Ship Channel

No injuries were reported.
