Crews clean up chemical spill north of Houston

HOUSTON – Crews are working Monday to clean up a chemical spill that resulted in some people being evacuated in an area north of Houston.

The crash was reported about 10:30 a.m. at 2430 Farrell Road.

According to KPRC 2's Joel Eisenbaum, the small tanker truck was hauling muriatic acid, which is used in bleach, when it overturned.

Eisenbaum said the area where the spill happened is mainly an industrial area. He said some people were evacuated from a nearby construction site. People at a couple of nearby businesses were ordered to shelter in place.

Emergency crews expect to have the area cleaned up by 3 p.m., Eisenbaum said.
