Police chase exceeds 100 mph on Beltway

HOUSTON – A police chase on Beltway 8 Thursday topped 110 mph and ended with officers arresting a man wearing only underwear, officials said.

The chase, which lasted about 25 minutes, started shortly before 10 a.m. with deputies from Harris County Precinct 5.

The suspect led officers south on Beltway 8 past Hillcroft and Almeda before turning on Highway 288, where he crashed, jumped out of his vehicle and fled on foot, according to officials.

Detectives said the man, who was only wearing underwear and a tank top, ran onto state Highway 288. Officers tackled the man on the highway and took him into custody.

The man may have mental problems, officials said.

Investigators said the case began as a weapons disturbance call on Goldpoint Drive.
