HOUSTON – A police chase ended when a fleeing driver crashed into a west Houston home, detectives said.
Houston police said the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban didn't stop at a red light late Sunday.
An officer began chasing the driver, but the chase didn't last long. It ended less than a mile away when the driver crashed into a house on the corner of Windswept and Gessner.
Waldo Tristi's wife and kids were inside the home at the time of the crash. They weren't in the dining room, where the SUV ended up, and they were not hurt. Tristi said he was at church at the time of the crash.
"We were eating and (my family) called me," he said. "That was scary."
The driver of the SUV didn't stick around. He ran away from the scene and hasn't been caught. Police said they don't know his name.
Investigators said they believe the Suburban was stolen. Its license plates were missing, officials said.
Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
