HOUSTON - Firefighters are working to figure out what caused a car to catch fire at a southeast Houston high-rise building Monday night.
Fire officials said the vehicle caught fire around 10:30 p.m. in a parking garage on the fourth floor of The Mosaic on Hermann Park.
Witnesses said they are used to seeing emergency vehicles in the area because it's near the Medical Center, but some residents in the high-rise became worried after they saw a cluster of emergency vehicles parked below the building.
Firefighters called extra units to the scene to fight the flames, but did not evacuate the building.
Still, some residents decided to play it safe and left the high-rise anyway.
"When you're living on the 20th floor of a high-rise building, just a normal smokey fire isn't anything normal. And, yeah, that's not anything you want to experience," said Janice Prevost, a resident at The Mosaic.
Prevost said her heart was still racing after rushing down the stairs and finding smoke filling the air.
Investigators said no one was hurt in the late-night fire.
