Issue: FEMA restrictions?

Question from Beverly: "Is it true that if you accept FEMA money you are not able to sell your home?"

Answer: No. Federal Emergency Management Agency spokesperson tells us FEMA does not place any restrictions on selling your home if you receive a FEMA grant.

Issue: Flooded Cars

Question from Phyllis: "Both of our cars have flooded out. The insurance company has totaled them and has given us some money for them but not enough to purchase two vehicles. Can we get assistance to help purchase our cars?"

Answer: Yes, in some instances FEMA may make up the difference. Register for assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov. Usually, the help only covers for one primary car per household.

Issue: Can people helping victims get aid?

Question from Or: "My aunt's apartment flooded and she won't be able to live there anytime soon. She is currently living at my house. She already applied for FEMA. Are people such as myself getting some sort of assistance from FEMA for helping shelter flood victims?"

Answer: Unfortunately, the answer is no. Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) is currently only available at hotels participating in the TSA program. Hotels are encouraged to participate in the emergency lodging assistance program. Information regarding accepting FEMA lodging assistance payments for guests in need of emergency lodging is available on the THLA web site.
