Cab driver robbed at knifepoint by 2 Friendswood men, police say

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – Two men are facing charges after Friendswood police said they robbed a taxicab driver at knifepoint on Saturday.

Authorities said Cody Nathaniel Read, 17, and Christian Chase Russell, 20, robbed the driver at 5:25 a.m. near the intersection of Appleblossom and Townes Road.

They stole $51, police said.

One of the men left his phone in the back seat of the cab, police said.

Police determined that the phone belonged to Read, of Friendswood.

When officers arrived at Read's home in the 5300 block of Whittier Oaks, they found Read and Russell, also of Friendswood, asleep.

Russell had some of the stolen money in his pocket, according to police. Read claimed that he dropped the other $45 when they ran.

Read is charged with aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $30,000 and he is currently in the Harris County Jail.

Police said Russell was released from jail on May 4. He is currently on three years' probation for burglary. He is charged with receiving stolen property for his part in this robbery.
