HOUSTON - Meyerland Court and Plaza are coming back after Hurricane Harvey hit both set of stores hard.
Super Nails in Meyerland Court just reopened over the past week. Mary Lac, the owner of Super Nails, said her store had 20 inches of water.
“One day you have everything and the next day it takes everything away from you,” Lac said. “It was so sad.”
Regular customers were happy to see their favorite places opening their doors again.
“It made me sad because it's a small business and I've been coming here for years and years,” said Janet Rosen, a Super Nails customer. “And, it's just a wonderful friendly place to get my nails done and I come every week at the same time. I missed coming but most of all I missed my friend Mary. She is so sweet.”
In Meyerland Court, more than 20 stores have opened back up.
Meyerland Plaza did not return our calls for this story, but many stores are open there too.
Several big name chains, are still closed like Talbots, Charming Charlie, Dress Barn and Old Navy.
Places like Talbots and Charming Charlie, are promising in notes on their doors to reopen soon.
“It's just devastating,” said Natalie Johnston of Meyerland. “This is our home. I grew up here and our kids go to school here. It was devastating. Having Tom Foolery open is exciting for the kids.”
The owner of the toy store, Tom Foolery, credits their Meyerland Court landlord, Kagan Realty, with getting their businesses back up and running.
"The landlord was phenomenal,” Carole Staley said. “It took us two days to get the water out of the store and the landlord was here almost immediately on the third day and said let's rip out the walls."
Super Nails also went into super overdrive to get their salon remodeled and furniture replaced.
“We're so lucky and blessed that we're back in business,” Staley said.
Customers big and small are happy to see their favorite stores open once again.
“I wanted it to be opened back up forever and ever and never close again do you see anything you want today,” said Sophia Johnston, a Tom Foolery customer.
