Burglars caught on camera

Cameras show burglars break glass door to get inside home

HOUSTON - Police are looking for a group of burglars caught on camera breaking into a Shepherd Forest home.

Houston police said the burglary happened in the 1000 block of West 31st Street just after 9 a.m. on June 13.

The homeowner said she was running errands when she received a call from her alarm company that someone had broken into her home.

"You do feel kind of violated, like someone has come into your personal space," said the homeowner, who asked not to be identified.

Investigators said the burglars didn't avoid the security cameras inside and outside the home.

"Besides being scared about it, we're just grateful we weren't here, to be honest with you," said the homeowner.

Police said a silver Chevrolet Impala was seen pulling into the driveway.

Video showed a man get out of the passenger seat, walk up to the house and ring the doorbell. Police said they believe he was trying to see if the homeowners were there.

The man and his driver then left, only to return a few minutes later.

Then two men get out of the car and forced their way onto the property through the home's side fence, investigators said the video showed.

A backyard camera showed the men kick through a glass door.

A minute after they got inside, the alarm went off, sending the two men running out of the home, officials said.

"I don't like going to sleep and not knowing what's going to happen," said the homeowner.

The homeowner said she and her husband are afraid the men could strike again.

"We are more alert. We're beefing up the security and possibly getting a dog," she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
