HOUSTON - A 4-year-old boy was hit by a car in a southeast Houston crosswalk Wednesday.
Officials said the boy was crossing the street in the 3930 block of West Fuqua near White Heather with his mother and a crossing guard to get to the MLK Early Childhood Center shortly after 7:30 a.m. when the accident happened.
The boy was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not released.
The 76-year-old driver said she did not see the boy before she hit him.
Houston Independent School District police said drivers don't always slow down when they're going through school zones. Officials said they planned to set up radars along West Fuqua on Wednesday.
Investigators said parents and students need to be cautious when crossing streets near schools.
"Just because you're a pedestrian, you still have to yield the right-of-way to vehicles, and a lot people don't understand that," Officer Quinten Flannel said.
