SPRING, Texas - A 3-year-old boy who was shot in the face at his grandparent's house Sunday in the Spring area has died, deputies said.

"That makes it even worse cause I was praying all night, ever since I heard what happened, that he was going to come through," said neighbor Freddie Moore.

Moore's shock turned to grief after hearing a three-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself had died.

"He was just a playful kid, whenever they brought him outside, he would just run around and have fun," said Moore.

Investigators said the grandparents were babysitting the boy at the home on Puget Lane Sunday afternoon when the boy found a loaded gun in a bedroom and shot himself in the head.

Paramedics flew him to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died Monday.

"My mother took it very hard. She just cried. She was really sad about it," said Moore.

KPRC Channel 2 News caught the grandparents walking from their home, with their hands covered yesterday so investigators could check for gun residue.

Moore said he's praying for the family during this difficult time.

"I can't imagine what that family is going through, what their daughter must be going through losing her son like that," he said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the case has been referred to a grand jury to decide whether or not anyone will face charges.
