EDINBURG, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol disrupted marijuana smuggling activity throughout the Rio Grande, taking nearly $250,000 worth of pot off the streets.
Agents said they discovered a pickup truck speeding near Garceño, Texas, Tuesday night. When agents attempted to stop the truck, the driver turned around and abandoned the pickup near the Rio Grande.

While the suspect got away and fled into Mexico, agents said they found three bundles of marijuana inside the bed of the abandoned pickup truck. The pot weighed more than 200 pounds, worth $171,000.
On Thursday, near Brownsville, Border Patrol agents said they stopped four undocumented people trying to scale the border wall. While searching the area, agents also found more marijuana, about 30 pounds with a street value of $26,000.
Also on Thursday in Brownsville, agents said they found several people trying to smuggle drugs. Border Patrol says those suspects dumped the drugs and fled to Mexico. Agents recovered 65 pounds of marijuana worth $52,000.
