HOUSTON - An investigation is underway after a man's body was found in the trunk of a car in northwest Houston.

Residents who live in an apartment complex near the Independence Heights and Oak Forest subdivisions called police Saturday afternoon after they smelled a foul odor coming from a gray BMW.

"We walked over there to smell it and it smelled horrible," said resident Brittany Williams. "There were flies everywhere and there were bugs on the ground."

When police arrived, they opened the trunk of the car and found the man's decomposing body.

Williams said she had seen the car parked in the complex lot for a few days.

"The windows were like all foggy, so we felt like maybe it was a body or a dog in the car," Williams said.

According to detectives, the BMW is linked to a missing person out of Fort Bend County. The Houston Police Department will be working with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office to determine if the body belongs to the missing person.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
