Bicyclist critically injured in hit-and-run

Driver fled scene

HOUSTON - A bicyclist was in critical condition Wednesday after he was hit by a car in northwest Harris County and the driver took off, investigators said.

The 58-year-old cyclist was crossing the 13200 block of FM 529 near Log Cradle Drive at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit.

"An unknown white male was crossing FM 529 going north to south on his bike at which time he was struck by an unidentified vehicle. He came off the bike and landed in the road and stayed there until someone called the sheriff's office," said Sgt. Mike Harvey with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The victim remained on the road until another motorist spotted him minutes later. The impact was so powerful that it knocked the shoes off the cyclist's feet.

The cyclist was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said they don't have a vehicle description for the hit-and-run suspect.

The victim's name was not released.
