Battleship Texas celebrates 100th anniversary

HOUSTON – Shes been around the world and served in both world wars, and Wednesday the Battleship Texas celebrates its 100th anniversary.

The ship was commissioned on this day back in 1914 and is the last remaining big-gun battleship in the U.S. naval fleet.

Wednesday, World War II crew members who served on the Battleship Texas gathered for a private ceremony at the historic landmark.

Local 2 caught up with a former crew member as he toured the ship he once served on.

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst attended Wedneday's event.

This Saturday, a public celebration will take place at Battleship Texas.

It is scheduled at the San Jacinto Battleground Park from noon until 10 p.m.
