Babies R Us evacuated after man hides in store

HOUSTON - A popular store for expecting and new parents was evacuated Wednesday while investigators searched for a suspicious man.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables said the man went into the Babies R Us store on F.M. 1960 near Cypress Station about 4 p.m. Investigators said the man harassed another man and a child at a nearby McDonald's. Detectives said they tried to talk to him, but he ran away and went inside the Babies R Us store.

"He appeared to be harassing another adult male and a small child," said Lt. Michael Combest.

"He was running behind a girl so I thought maybe he was chasing her," said one shopper.

The store was evacuated while investigators searched for the man.

"I was getting ready to check out and I saw all the police officers," said Lisa Collins. "They just asked me to leave, leave my basket and go outside."

"They told me to get out of the store," said Lisa Dillalobos. "They said there was a man in the store and I could put my kids in danger."

Detectives said they found the unarmed man hiding between a crib and a dresser.

Investigators said they were working to determine if he had mental impairments. He was taken to a hospital for injuries he suffered when a K-9 unit got to him, officials said.

The man will face evading arrest charges
