Inmate dies from 'acute cocaine toxicity' while at Brazos County Jail

BRAZOS COUNTY, Texas – The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers conducted an investigation after a man died at the Brazos County Jail on Feb. 15.

Johnny Dewayne Hall, 39, was detained by the Bryan Police Department at 9:05 p.m., according to a release from police.

Hall was subsequently arrested and taken to jail on charges of fleeing from a police officer and tampering with physical evidence. He arrived at the jail at 10:19 p.m., authorities said.

While at the jail, Hall was seated in the intake area waiting to complete the intake process when he first appeared to be disoriented, according to police.

Officers called for assistance, and Hall was taken to the hospital, according to reports.

An autopsy was ordered to determine Hall's cause and manner of death.

The results of the autopsy revealed Hall died from acute cocaine toxicity, according to reports.

No signs of injury or trauma were found during the examination.
