Attackers throw peanut butter jar out of SUV, strike man in face

Thomas Moreno said evidence of a despicable crime against a man still mars the street where it happened late Thursday night.

Moreno also said that the people responsible for throwing a jar of peanut butter out of a vehicle and hitting a man in the face are still out there.

"Basically, this was the leftover peanut butter marks from yesterday," Moreno said Friday. "If you're going to pick on somebody, pick on somebody your own size."

Moreno said he was playing basketball at Nieto Park when he spotted a suspicious SUV circling the block multiple times.

"The last time it passed by, there was an old man right here and when I turned around, they threw a jar of peanut butter at him. A direct hit," Moreno said.

Moreno said the man probably didn't even see it coming and the cowards who threw the jar of peanut butter quickly left.

"It caused a huge gash on him. Everybody from the basketball court ran. I ran. We just tried to tend to him," Moreno said.

The gentleman was badly bleeding, according to Moreno.

"He was bleeding profusely down his face. Luckily we were able to tend to him and he was able to hold the towel down until the medical staff came," Moreno said.

Moreno said the man was taken to the hospital and thinks he will be OK.

What Moreno said he is not OK with is that the people who are responsible for the crime are still roaming the streets.

"It's horrible. A lot of the kids today and stuff like that, even adults, it's very unnecessary. Especially to pick on an old man like that," Moreno said.
