AT&T, HCC hold no texting while driving pledge

Simulator educates drivers on dangers of texting while driving

HOUSTON - If you get a text while behind the wheel, it can wait. That is the simple message AT&T is sending to young drivers.

AT&T and Houston Community College have teamed up to drive that message home, and educate drivers on the dangers of texting and driving.

On Monday, AT&T brought a virtual reality simulator to the HCC campus to let the Houston community experience first-hand the dangers of texting and driving.

"I was really scared, afraid I would get in an accident," said Allison Fremin, who attended the class.

According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute Research, one text takes a driver's eyes off the road for an average of five seconds. At that speed, it is like driving the length of a football field completely blind.

"I tell you, when I really get a car I'm not really going to do this because I don't want that to happen to me for real," said Daniel Lunna.
