Astros win brings much needed joy to Harvey flood victims

HOUSTON – With so many Houstonians suffering from Harvey damage, the Astros' World Series win is just what everyone needed.

The last two months have been an emotional roller coaster ride for Katarina Casas.

Her home flooded from the reservoir releases. She had to walk through chest-high water, and everything was damaged on the first floor of her home.

“We lost everything on the first floor,” Casas said.

Through it all, she went to her job every day at Minute Maid Park, working on the sales team
for the Astros organization.

“The organization has been great," she said. "My boss, coworkers, Human Resources, Jimrane -- everyone has been so amazing."

She said she was sure to watch the final game with the crowds at Minute Maid Park, adding that the win erased all things Harvey.

“It was insane. Everybody's energy was so explosive,” Casas said. “Bregman, Springer, Correa, Altuve -- they all pulled it together. It was the most amazing. I’m not even thinking about Harvey.
I'm not thinking about anything negative.”

The same was true for Laura Freudenberger, a long-time Astros fan whose Meyerland home flooded for the first time during Harvey.

She watched Game 7 from her recently flooded home. She said it made the win all the sweeter.

“It gave us something to focus on that was very positive -- positive energy,” Freudenberger said. “There was so much negative, and then there was so much positive, a range of extreme emotions.
I think I’m still feeling that."

Diane Furst's home also flooded during Harvey. She too is an Astros fan, and nothing was going to stop her from rooting them on.

“I dug through the debris and found my old Astros shirt,” she said.

She said watching the Astros win the series from her rental apartment was an emotional game changer for her.

“Every day for the last two months, you feel like, I guess you feel like you've been punched in the stomach, so depressed and now everyone is so excited,” Furst said.
