Astros take long look at security measures ahead of ALDS

HOUSTON – Faithful fans braved the rain to get tickets and parking passes at Minute Maid Park Tuesday.

The first game of the American League Division Series is Thursday.

Security preparations were also underway. Barricades formed a ring around the park. Workers said it was part of the preparation for this high-profile, playoff game.

"I got tickets for Thursday for me and my son. He has school. So I just called his mom and asked if it was OK if he missed the last two classes and she said, 'Go ahead,'" Astros fan Jason Coble said.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told KPRC 2 that the city would be ready.

He also said police needed help reporting anything suspicious.

"We're going to continue to do what we've done in the past to keep people safe. We've had major, major events in this city since ... since I've been here and even before. And we've done an excellent job," Turner said.

Back at the ballpark, security shaped up as workers checked the surveillance cameras around the perimeter.

Others made sure they had their tickets.

"I don't have security concerns. I mean the city of Houston does a good job of security at sporting events. I have season tickets to the Rockets. They're great there. Never had problems with the Astros. And even when I go to the Texans games, I feel very safe there," Astros fan Roni Most said.
