Association tells residents to move valuables

Tanglewood Homes Association says items might not be safe inside homes

HOUSTON - A Houston-area neighborhood association warned residents that valuables might not be safe inside parts of their homes. The Tanglewood Homes Association spread the security alert in a note it sent to residents.

"Please take all valuable jewelry or other important items and move them out of your master bedroom and bathroom area," the note said. "If you have any jewelry that is very important to you, please place it in a safe deposit box at a local bank."

Resident Jenifer Mickan, a victim of theft, said she was surprised by the suggestion.

"It's kind of sad that it's come to that. But I'm an example of it happening -- a break in. And you just feel violated," she said.

In the latest case, a witness said two men pulled up and acted as if they were measuring a driveway, then broke into a home.

They didn't leave with anything and took off as soon as the burglar alarm went off, a witness said.
