HOUSTON – A driver hit a woman who was walking on Highway 249 late Thursday night -- and then as many as seven or eight cars struck the pedestrian as well when she was down in the roadway, witnesses told investigators, with none of those drivers stopping to check on the woman or call for help, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The woman was found dead at the scene of the crash, the Vehicular Crimes Division of the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The case is considered a hit and run. The woman was struck about 11:30 p.m., in the 14000 block of Highway 249, in the northbound lanes, near Fallbrook Drive.Â
Her name has not been released by authorities.
The first vehicle to hit the woman was also heading north on Highway 249.
No further details have been released.
