Ammonia cause of evacuation at office building

No one injured in spill, HFD reports

HOUSTON - Houston fire department and Hazmat were called to the scene of a chemical leak at an office building in southwest Houston Thursday.

HPD arrived around 1:50 p.m. at a building on Rogerdale and Westpark.

The leaks involved four cylinders of anhydrous ammonia, according to HFD Hazardous Materials Team. The team determined that the chemical in the air was slight, with only 1 percent registering.

The office building was evacuated and reports from the scene were that several people were overcome by the odor.

Approximately 100 people worked inside the Nature Best building. Although a number of employees were evaluated by medical personnel, no one was transported to the hospital, according to HFD.
