Alligator found outside Katy ISD junior high school

KATY, Texas – Katy ISD teachers preparing for the first day of school got a surprise Wednesday morning when an alligator was found on campus.

According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, the gator was found outside a door at Beck Junior High in the 5000 block of South Fry Road.

"Somebody thinks today is the first day of school! At@katyisd BeckJH," FBCSO posted on their Twitter account with a picture of the cornered gator.

The animal slowly moved its way to another side of the campus, where it was secured by deputies near several air conditioning units.

The animal was calm as deputies remained a safe distance away.  Deputies then moved in, lassoing the animal's neck and mouth, then carrying it away.

Deputies placed the gator in the trunk of a squad car to take it off the property.

Katy ISD released the following statement:

"At approximately 7:20 a.m., staff at Beck Junior High discovered an alligator near the entrance of the building. Authorities were immediately contacted, and Animal Control is currently in route to remove the alligator. Schools are not in session and children will begin attending Katy ISD schools on August 25."
