Houston police are investigating the death of an Aldine Independent School District art teacher who crashed into a tree in the Museum District Wednesday morning.

Joseph Doyle, 54, was leaving the Museum of Fine Arts on Binz Street around 9:45 a.m. He was driving a maroon Buick Enclave eastbound on the street when he swerved into the westbound lane of traffic, hit another vehicle, then struck a tree.

Witnesses reported seeing Doyle slumped over his wheel before the crash.

It was not known if Doyle suffered some type of medical issue.  His cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

According to an MFAH representative, Doyle was regional director for an exhibit that just closed at Glassell School featuring student artwork from all over Texas.  He was picking up pieces since the exhibit was over.

After the crash, MFAH staff recovered the artwork to make sure it gets back to students.
