Accused intoxicated driver charged after deadly 7-vehicle crash, police say

HOUSTON – A man accused of driving while intoxicated has been charged after a person was killed in a seven-vehicle crash, Houston police said.

Steven Taylor, 47, is charged with intoxication manslaughter. Police said Taylor was involved in the deadly crash that happened Friday at 10:40 p.m. in the 3600 block of Liberty Road.

Taylor was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup at a high rate of speed before crashing into a white Lincoln Town Car, a black Dodge Caravan and a third vehicle that were stopped at a red light westbound at the Bringhurst intersection, police said.

The impact of the crash caused the Lincoln to go into the eastbound lanes, where it struck a fifth vehicle traveling eastbound on Liberty Road, police said. The third vehicle also crossed into the eastbound lanes, where it crashed into a sixth vehicle traveling east on Liberty Road, police said.

A seventh vehicle was eventually struck, police said.

A passenger in Taylor's pickup was announced dead at the scene, police said. Taylor and three others were taken to hospitals nearby, police said.

Investigators said Taylor was determined to be intoxicated and was charged.

The crash is still under investigation.
