9-year-old boy gets to be honorary KPRC2 meteorologist for day

HOUSTON – Londen Chavez is an aspiring meteorologist who has always wanted to put his weather skills to the test.

KPRC Channel 2 took the opportunity to team up with the Kids Wish Network to give Londen, 9, a behind-the-scenes look at how we put together the newscast each day.

Londen proved he's a natural for the job, already knowing how to use the same weather graphics that our meteorologists use on the air.

"I see that thing right there, with the arrow ... and it says hot!" Londen said.

A true weather person knew he was immediately talking about the high-pressure ridge that has been keeping our forecast in the mid-90s for two weeks straight now.

The one part of working in television that he wasn't sold on was having to wear makeup.

When KPRC2 meteorologist Justin Stapleton told him that he was wearing some and asked if Londen wanted any, his answer was a fairly confident, "Um ... no."

After a few practice rounds, Londen was ready for his big television debut on what we call "The Cube Wall" and delivered a flawless presentation.
