HOUSTON - Eight Houston Independent School District elementary school teachers will be out of a job, according to the president of the Houston Federation of Teachers.
The decision comes after an independent investigation revealed that they helped students at Jefferson Elementary cheat on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness test in 2012.
"We take these findings very seriously. It is imperative that we have access to reliable and unbiased test results, as testing helps the district measure the degree to which students are learning," said HISD Superintendent Terry Grier.
The school board is expected to make the announcement on Thursday.
The the fate of four other teachers, who are also accused of helping kids cheat, is still undecided.
The Houston Federation of Teachers plans to appeal the firings.
