5 men terrorize family in home invasion

HOUSTON - A family said they were terrorized by five men who forced their way into a northwest Harris County home.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said the attack happened in the 5400 block of Canyon Forest near Moonlight Forest Drive in the Inwood North neighborhood late Wednesday.

The residents said someone knocked on the door and asked if Joe lived in the home. The residents said they responded no and thought the men left.

A short time later, the residents said they opened the door and five men, armed with guns, ran inside.

"I turned around and jumped on the couch and put my head down," said one resident, who did not want to reveal his identity. "Two of them, with the guns, ran around to the back."

A 16-year-old girl who was inside the home managed to jump out a window, grab a phone and called 911. The victims said two of the robbers then pulled up alongside her.

"They kept asking us, 'Where is the money? Where's the stuff?' I think they thought we were a dope house," one of the victims said.

The robbers woke up a woman who was sleeping. She said they threw a 4-year-old boy as they overturned beds in their search for money.

"This is the way I'm going to die," the woman said she thought at the time of the attack. "I was praying that I wouldn't."

Investigators said the attackers were 16 to 20 years old and wore hooded sweatshirts and bandannas to cover their faces.
