HOUSTON - Four people have been arrested and charged in connection with a killing during a drug deal at a southwest Houston apartment complex, police said.

Jereale Raashard Holmes, 20, Jamal Joyner, 20, Kristane Nikold Samuel-Curry, 20, and Jerry Dwight Shinard, 22, have been charged with capital murder.

Houston police said Gustavo Cardenas, 26, and two friends went to an apartment in the 7200 block of Bellerive about 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 to sell a large amount of marijuana to Holmes, Joyner, Samuel-Curry and Shinard.

Detectives said the group tried to rob Cardenas and his friends.

Cardenas was shot once during the attack and died, investigators said.

Holmes, Joyner, Samuel-Curry and Shinard were arrested on Friday.
