21-year-old mom charged with child abuse

Prosecutors: Mom whipped daughter, left child in car

HOUSTON - A 21-year-old southeast Houston mother was charged with child abuse, and accusations range from whipping her children with a cord to leaving one inside a car.

Aisha Holmes is accused of abusing three of her four children on at least three separate occasions in April 2011. None of the children is older than 5 years old.

According to court documents, Holmes whipped her 5-year-old daughter with a cord on April 11.

On April 24, she is accused of leaving one of her children inside a car.

On April 30, she knocked her 2-year-old son to the ground, according to court documents.

"It just breaks my heart to see that. It really tears me apart," said Chad Price, a neighbor.

Price said he didn't know Holmes personally but would often see her children outside late at night.

"When I saw the children outside playing mostly by themselves, I did go in the house and tell my wife that that simply should never be allowed," said Price.

Holmes' apartment now appears to be abandoned.

"I would hate to see the kids put in different places, and the brothers and sisters not being together," said Price.

Child Protection Services said the four children are together in foster care.

The children's father doesn't have custody of the children because of a domestic dispute with Holmes last December, said CPS.

He has not been charged.
