Bloody attack by inmate leaves jailer with stitches, officials say

ANAHUAC, Texas – An inmate attacked a jailer in Chambers County on Sunday, leaving a bloody mess and the jailer with stitches, according to authorities.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said 33-year-old Edward Forrest, of Beach City, was being held in jail on trespassing and mischief charges.

Hawthorne said Forrest began causing a disturbance and when the jail supervisor went to check on him, Forrest attacked the supervisor, hitting him in the head. Two other jailers and a state trooper ran in and restrained Forrest, Hawthorne said.

The jailer received numerous stitches to his forehead, Hawthorne said. He was released from the hospital after being treated.

Photos shared on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page showed the jailer receiving treatment and at least two pools of blood on the floor of a jail cell.
