Teen washed knife in kitchen sink after stabbing his father to death, prosecutors say

HOUSTON – A teenager has been arrested after police said he confessed to stabbing his father to death in their west Houston apartment.

Carlos Raushawn Cacho, 17, is charged with murder in the death of 49-year-old Carlos Colon Cacho.

"He's going to be a senior in high school and does have disabilities," a public defender said.

It's unclear what those disabilities are and if they will play a factor in this case.

What happened

According to Houston police, officers responded to the family’s apartment about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after someone reported a cutting incident. Officers said they found the elder Cacho dead inside the apartment located at Eldridge Parkway and Forkland Drive.

Investigators said the victim's wife reported that she and the victim had gotten into a fight Wednesday morning. She said she left the apartment with three of the couple's five children, but left Carlos Raushawn Cacho and his 14-year-old brother at home.

The wife said that, when she returned, she was met at the door by Carlos Raushawn Cacho, according to investigators.

"She was greeted at the front door by the defendant and asked what had happened," the prosecutor at Thursday's hearing said. "He responded that he had 'stabbed dad.' The wife then went to the bathroom and saw the complainant's body lying on the restroom floor, surrounded by blood. She then asked the defendant to call 911, which he did."

The confession

Investigators said Carlos Raushawn Cacho confessed to the stabbing while he was being interviewed by detectives.

He claims he reached for the knife because his father hit him several times.

"He also stated that he washed the knife used to stab the complainant in the kitchen sink and left it on the counter," the prosecutor said.

A judge set his bond at $50,000.
