4 firefighters, 1 resident treated for smoke inhalation after apartment fire damages 33 units

HOUSTON – Several firefighters were treated for injuries sustained during a four-alarm fire Friday in west Houston.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Greenridge Drive at the Greenridge Place Apartments.

Officials said four firefighters and one resident were treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire burned for about two hours. It spread from the first floor to the third floor, officials said. Officials said 33 units were damaged by fire, water and smoke.

Residents were forced to evacuate their apartments. A tight courtyard, slim parking lot and limited access to water made the firefighting process difficult.

Wind also aided the flames, helping them spread quickly.

Residents watched helplessly as the flames destroyed apartments.

"I know my unit is affected. There's smoke damage for sure. As I was coming out, getting some personal belongings, and the smoke damage. This is unbelievable," Jean Benoit said.
