Argument-turned-shooting leaves woman's boyfriend dead, her son missing

MT. HOUSTON, Texas – A man is dead after an argument with his wife in the Mt. Houston area.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 10:10 p.m. Sunday at a home on Wild Pine near Easthampton Drive.

The man, 29, and his wife were arguing over income tax when, deputies said, when things became physical, the wife took her 1-year-old child and went to a different room and her son stepped in.

"A 15-year-old (son) got involved with it and some of his friends that were there got involved in it and at some point, the victim was shot," said Sgt. Greg Pinkins.

Neighbors told KPRC2 reporter Cathy Hernandez that hearing gunshots is nothing out of the ordinary for the area.

"We’re used to hearing (gunshots), so it was something normal here," said Axel Martinez. "It’s sad. There have been multiple shootings, with multiple people getting injured and to get to this point, that’s it. They were trying to control her because she was going crazy. She just lost her dad.”

The 15-year-old and his friends left the scene after the shooting, but hours after the incident, the son returned home and is speaking to authorities.

Deputies said he has not yet been named a suspect in the shooting.

Investigators are still working to determine who pulled the trigger.

“We’re not saying the (son) shot him. There were several people inside the home at the time of the shooting, and we’re trying to narrow down exactly what happened,” Pinkins said. "There was a 1-year-old that was in the house at the time, but she’s not harmed. She was in a different room when all of this was going on."

Authorities said they do not know where the shooter got the gun and do not yet have anyone in custody.
