Man wanted in connection with deadly shooting of Channelview mother, found

HOUSTON – A Houston man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a mother of three has been found in Kentucky, police said.

According to authorities, Edna McWhorter, 29, - an avid trail rider - was at the V Lounge in Channelview Sept. 1, 2018, for a trail riding event when she and Jerry Wayne Greer, 38, got into an argument in the club parking lot.

Officials said the argument escalated and Greer shot and killed McWhorter before fleeing in a black Ford Mustang.

According to police, Greer fled to Lexington, where he was spotted at a hotel Saturday.

Lexington police set up surveillance on the hotel, and Greer was taken into custody without incident when he left the building.

According to people close to McWhorter, she and Greer had a history of personal issues.

McWhorter’s cousin Quincy Harris said McWhorter was a mother of three and had put her own trail riding group together in honor of her dad, who died from cancer and had also been a trail rider.

“My cousin was a beautiful person. He didn't have to take her, he didn't have to take her,” Harris said. “This could have been a walk-away situation and now she's gone, and her three kids are here.”

Greer has been charged with murder and domestic assault.
