Possible gang-related shootout leaves one dead, another injured, deputies say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Multiple shell casings and an assault rifle were left in the road after an overnight shootout in northeast Harris County.

Deputies said the incident happened around 12:40 a.m. Monday at a home near Duncannon Drive and Barbara Mae Street.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, at least one person was killed and another injured in the possibly gang-related shooting.

Deputies said neighbors led them to the house where the shooting happened, and once inside authorities found a 20-year-old Hispanic man who'd been shot to death.

A man who was injured in the shooting was taken to a hospital and later released into HCSO custody where he told deputies that he and a friend had gotten caught in the crossfire. The man has since been released.

Deputies said at least four guns were used, and four to six people were involved in the shooting that left between 30 and 40 shell casings scattered in the street.

According to authorities, marijuana and other narcotics were found inside the home, and neighbors told them it was a known drug house.

Deputies said a black Chevy Impala trying to get away from the shooting crashed into a light pole near Holly Park Drive and Sevenhampton Lane. The driver abandoned the car.

Witnesses told deputies that a white Chevy Impala and a red four-door sedan were exchanging gunfire while driving up and down the street. Deputies said the black Impala may have been involved.

The red sedan crashed into two other vehicles parked in a driveway as it fled the scene.

After searching the home, it is believed that the incident was a gang issue and drug-related robbery, deputies said.

Deputies confiscated a surveillance system from inside the house where the shooting happened and working to try and access the video.

No identities have been released yet.

The neighborhood is still shut down while deputies investigate.
