Woman found dead in truck in SE Houston was mother of 3, family said

HOUSTON – A woman found dead in a pickup truck on the side of the road Wednesday night in southeast Houston has been identified by family members as Maria Santiago Marquez, 38, of Houston.

Victor Mejia, Marquez' husband, said he and Marquez were granite contractors and that his wife was working at a home in Pearland that was under construction.

Mejia said he became very worried Wednesday night when he hadn't heard from Marquez.

Mejia said he called the police and when Marquez' phone was pinged, officers were able to track it near an apartment complex close to where the truck was found.

Houston police said officers responded to a call of a woman's body found wrapped in a blanket in the passenger side of a pickup truck on the La Porte Freeway Frontage Road near Coolidge, just west of Loop 610.

Mejia said his wife was carrying a lot of cash and that the cash is missing.

He described her as a loving wife and mother of three, who was very dedicated to her job.
