Texas DPS fatally shoots suspect in attempted robbery at NW Houston Wingstop

HOUSTON, Texas – Two young men are in custody and another is dead after an attempted robbery at a restaurant in northwest Houston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The shooting happened after an attempted robbery of a Wingstop in the 14100 block of the Northwest Freeway around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, according to DPS.

Lt. Craig Cummings, of the Texas DPS, said an undercover operation with DPS special agents was underway to keep an eye on suspects believed to have been possibly involved in several recent robberies in the area during the past week.

"They saw three masked men exit a local business here with weapons. The officers told the suspects to drop their weapons. When the suspects refused, shots were fired," Cummings said.

One of the three was killed during the gunfire, and the other two were taken into custody, accused of aggravated robbery.

The officer-involved shooting and attempted robbery is an ongoing investigation involving DPS, Texas Rangers and Houston police.

The name of the person fatally shot has not been released.
